4 seconds that can change hearts

Ingrid E. Newkirk, PETA

Dear SYLVIA,

This is the reality of a slaughterhouse: a terrified cow, moments from death, flailing around in the blood of others who were killed before him.

Slaughterhouse cow

The meat industry would like to ensure that videos like this don’t get recorded and is pushing hard for more states to pass „ag-gag“ laws, which make it a crime to document the routine cruelty and abuse that takes place on farms and in slaughterhouses across the U.S.

We won’t let this happen. We won’t let the industry hide the abuse. Will you help us?

YES, I want to help! I support PETA and its work to stop dangerous „ag-gag“ laws and protect the millions of cows, pigs, chickens, and other animals suffering and dying on farms.

PETA members have played a crucial role in the victories we’ve won against those who abuse, neglect, and kill animals for their flesh, milk, and eggs:

  • In a landmark victory, Idaho’s „ag-gag“ law was struck down as unconstitutional last year after PETA and other groups filed a lawsuit against it. Now we’re going after similar laws in North Carolina and Utah, with the help of our members.
  • Powered by PETA supporters, we’ve persuaded dozens of companies to pressure their dairy suppliers to stop dehorning cows—a horrifying procedure during which a cow’s horns are seared or sawed off, frequently without painkillers. Just this year, we added Dean Foods to the list, which controls more than one-third of the fluid milk supply in the U.S.
  • When PETA revealed that pigs are shocked, jabbed, and beaten with chains at a slaughterhouse in Mississippi, the U.S. Department of Agriculture took action and found that the slaughterhouse was breaking federal law. The facility closed its doors soon after—a victory for animals that couldn’t have happened without support from compassionate PETA members.

I want to be part of PETA’s next victory for cows, chickens, pigs, and other animals on farms. I’ll make a generous gift today.
