These Turkeys Endure ‘Horrific Conditions.’ Ask Whole Foods to Stop Selling Them.
If turkey is on your Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner menu, and you prefer to buy from producers and retailers who follow good animal welfare practices, buyer beware.
Diestel Turkey, sold in many Whole Foods Market (WFM) stores, predominantly in western states, claims to meet WFM’s high standards for animal welfare. But according to multiple news reports, and a nine-month investigation that led to a lawsuit against the company, Diestel turkeys endure “horrific conditions.”
WFM has probably already pre-ordered all its turkey for this year’s holiday season. But there’s always next year. If WFM wants consumers to trust the company’s animal welfare claims, it will drop Diestel Turkey.
Thank you for taking action!

P.S. We’re trying to determine in which states (besides California) WFM sells Diestel Turkey products. Can you check out your local WFM? If you find Diestel Turkey products there, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and let us know the city and state? If you’ve purchased Diestel Turkey in the past, please let us know where, what product, and if the company’s advertising played a role in your purchasing decision? Thanks!
