We mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women every year, but this year is different.

In the past few weeks, brave women and men have come forward in droves to share their experiences of gender-based violence in the workplace. Men in positions of great power within Hollywood, Congress, and countless other industries are being exposed as predators. These predators used their position in the workplace to create environments where women had to weigh speaking out and confronting their abusers against enormous personal and professional risk. Now more than ever, it’s critical to underscore that women’s rights are integral to and inseparable from labor rights.

The recent news cycle has made it clear – no amount of wealth or fame guarantees justice for victims through the legal system.

ILRF’s latest report, Time for Change: Advancing Legal Protections on Gender-Based Violence at Work, shows how the piecemeal legal infrastructure currently in place leaves workers vulnerable to gender-based violence.

Next spring, the International Labour Organization will convene to decide whether or not to create a binding international standard that would help close these gaps. Right now, with your help, we can make it clear to the international community that people of all genders need more protection from violence in the workplace.
