Tell Pendleton the Time to Ditch Fur Is Now!

Despite knowing that animals are beaten, electrocuted, shot, and sometimes even skinned alive in the fur trade, retailer Pendleton Woolen Mills, Inc., continues to sell items made from fur. The company’s CEO says that he’s not ready to go fur-free, but the animals are more than ready for him to make the change—and they need your help.

A recent investigation of fur farms in Finland—one of the countries from which Pendleton sources fox fur—revealed that dangerously unhealthy foxes are confined to tiny cages for years. According to reports, some of them were roughly five times heavier than they should have been and some struggled as they attempted to move around.

Pendleton’s winter line includes coats with fur from trapped coyotes, who can suffer for days and face blood loss, shock, dehydration, frostbite, gangrene, and attacks by predators. Those who don’t succumb to the elements, infection, or being killed by predators are often shot, strangled, stomped on, or bludgeoned to death when the trapper returns. By selling fur, the company is supporting egregious abuse.

All fur comes from animals who suffer greatly. Please let Pendleton know that the time to ditch fur is now!

Message to {contact_data~firstName} {contact_data~lastName}:

I was shocked to learn that Pendleton continues to sell fur, even though it’s clearly the product of a cruel industry. Animals on fur farms typically spend their entire lives confined to cramped, filthy wire cages, and fur farmers use the cheapest—and often cruelest—killing methods available, including suffocation, electrocution, gassing, and poisoning. Coyotes and other animals trapped in the wild may suffer for days and even attempt to chew off their own limbs to escape.

Pendleton is lagging behind major brands such as Gucci, Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, The North Face, Patagonia, and hundreds of others that have already committed to going fur-free and to using some of the many warm and luxurious alternatives that are currently available.

All fur production involves extreme cruelty. I refuse to buy anything from Pendleton—and will encourage all my friends and family members to do the same—until you stop selling fur.

Sincerely,
Sylvia Linnenkohl
